I found this article on Michelle Malkin’s site the other day but I’m just getting to blog it. I wanted to comment on this as I feel these types of articles that are used to defend protectionist policies against globalization. Basically the gist of the article is Orange County California is outsourcing DMV work to a Mexican company. I have always felt there are some issues with sensitive information work being off shored to countries that do not necessarily grant the protections of the US. I’m not sure of the protections provided by the Mexican government but I’m guessing they are not good. I personally would oppose this type of outsourcing as it contains sensitive data being sent to a country that is aiding it’s citizens in breaking our laws via illegal immigration. However, I do not think this constitutes a condemnation of all globalization. It is reasonable for our government to ensure proper security measures are in place when allowing off shoring of sensitive data but it is not appropriate to enact protectionist legislation.
